Our latest trip to Malawi

Mia and I set out for Lilongwe back in April. I am just now getting our website up and starting to share our updates so wanted our first update to be on our time in Lilongwe. And it was beautiful. More amazing that I could have asked for. God, as always, wa

We departed April 23 and traveled with the Friends of Adziwa medical team. We had many stops on the way, including a 14 hour layover in Frankfurt. Two days later, on April 25, we arrived in our beloved, Lilongwe. We settled into our airbnb with Scola, our nutrition program coordinator and her family.

Sunday, April 26th: We went to church with FOA’s church partner, Capital City Baptist. We reunited with many friends that day and shared lunch with many at our favorite restaurant, Ama Khofi.

Monday, April 27th: We served at Adziwa Christian School for the day with the medical team doing eye exams. This school has been a pivotal place for many reasons our family holds dear to our heart. God has used this school as a pivotal springboard modeling what a school looks like when it has poured into with prayer and love. God has shown us every step of the way what He wants Mgonjetsi Christian School to look like and He has given us a beautiful picture of what our future can look like. At the end of the day we met Chimz, our program facilitator, and his family for dinner to plan for the week.

Tuesday, April 28th: Today was our big food shopping day for Mgonjetsi Christian School. We purchased notebooks for the students, soya pieces, maize flour, oil, salt, soap, sugar and a lot more. We also collected 4 bales of clothes that we ordered and by the time we opened them all up, we were overwhelmed with the amount of clothes. But praise! Enough clothes for all the children. Wed

Wednesday, April 29th: Today we visited an orphanage that had many children that had lived with Moses when he was a baby. We brought donations and gifts and we saw many familiar faces. Pure joy in our hearts. We were prayed over and each gift was received with giant hearts of generosity. The rest of the day was prep. We packed curriculum bags with coloring books and crayons. Got the clothes ready for distribution and the food ready to be loaded.

Thursday, April 30th: Mgonjetsi Day! These villages are remote so it takes a good drive to get out there. I wish we had time to go more than once on this trip but we only had time for one big day. And that it was. Big and beautiful. We got to see many familiar faces. Many hugs. Lots of work. Lots of talking. Lots of meeting. Lots of feasting. Lots of laughter. Lots of work and lots of reward. We distributed the clothes. We did a massive food drop. We met with the village chiefs and the teachers. Being in person goes so far. Sometimes you don’t know if it’s worth it to use the money to fly out but they asked us to “please keep coming”. Our relationship grew even deeper on this trip.
